Every year more than 35 million people visit Canada as
tourists, students or temporary workers
Any
foreign national wishing to enter Canada for a
temporary purpose as a tourist or for a
temporary business purpose, unless
specifically prescribed, must apply for and
obtain a Temporary Resident Visa to Visit
Canada before appearing at a Port of Entry.
Letter
of Invitation
Persons
seeking a Temporary Resident Visa to Canada
from China will require a letter of invitation
from a Canadian citizen or a Canadian company
describing the purpose of the visit and the
length of stay.
Available
Funds
The
Applicant must demonstrate sufficient
financial resources to meet all financial
needs while in Canada, and must also produce a
round trip ticket.
Intention
to Leave Canada
The
applicant must prove there is no intention to
immigrate to Canada, which is usually
established by demonstrating a strong
connection to his or her own country. The
visitor is required to show a sufficiently
strong connection to their own country that
they will leave Canada upon the completion of
their studies. Visitors will also have to
satisfy the officer that they will leave
Canada at the end of the temporary authorized
period. A Citizenship and Immigration Canada
officer may ask a visitor for a cash deposit
for security if the officer believes the
visitor requires additional motivation to
respect the conditions of the Visa. The
deposit will be returned after the visitor
leaves Canada if the visitor has not broken
the conditions imposed by the visa.
Medical
Examination
Before
coming to Canada you may be
required to pass a medical
examination. If the duration
of your visit is less than
six month, no medical examination
is required. If the duration
of your visit is greater than
six months, no medical examination
is required unless the visitor
has resided or sojourned for
six or more consecutive months
in a designated country /
territory in the one year
immediately preceding the
date of seeking entry to Canada.
n accordance with the Designated
Country / Territory List,
the People’s Republic of China
and SAR Hong Kong is a designated
country or territory which
requires a medical examination.
No
Threat to Canadian Security
Foreign visitors must establish that they are not a threat to
Canada. Upon
arrival in Canada an
officer from Citizenship and Immigration
Canada will
interview each visitor. Visitors will not be
allowed into Canada if they give false or
incomplete information, or if you do not
satisfy the officer they are suitable for
entry into Canada.
Traveling
with Children
Children
under the age of 16 are required
to bring identification. Visitors are
also required to bring a letter from the
parent of a minor child they are traveling
with, if they are not the child's parent or
guardian. If the visitor is traveling with a
child and the visitor is the only guardian,
bring documentation showing the child has no
other guardians. For example: a birth
certificate showing that the child has no
father, or a letter of sole custody.
Adequate
Medical Coverage
Visitors must ensure that they have adequate health or
medical insurance before leaving for Canada,
as the Canadian
government does not pay for hospital or
medical services for visitors.
Change
of Visa Status
After arriving in Canada a foreign visitor may apply
in special cases to change the conditions of
the visit by completing
an Application
to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in
Canada
This application
is for temporary residents who are already in
Canada as visitors, students or workers, and
wish to extend their stay, change the
conditions of their stay, change their type of
temporary status, or correct problems with
their status. It is important to apply for the
extension before the expiry of
the current
status, as the visitor must do this
before the visa expires.
The visitor should apply to extend the
stay or visit three weeks before the visa
expires.
